My live and updated list of AI tools for help with creating AI prompts, writing content, editing, conducting research, generating images, video and more.

There’s a lot happening right now, so I’m saving AI-driven tools as I come across them. The exciting stuff is seeing the ways AI is being incorporated into workflows and aiding productivity and creativity. The scary stuff is seeing reported job losses, issues around plagiarism and the fear among writers (myself included) and the speed at which it’s all happening.

Will it replace writers and strategists like me?

As a writer and content strategist, I’m in the firing line, so to speak, when AI tools promise big about making writing easy. At the moment, however, it can’t create the complex documents, undertake the detailed, accurate research that I do, nor can it interview stakeholders, undertake content analysis and competitor analysis to create a targeted, strategic content strategy plans.

But there’s no denying this new and growing breed of generative AI systems is quickly developing as people from all walks look at how and where they can tap AI to get a helping hand.

Writing & Editing

Search

Bing, Microsoft’s search engine, has been given an AI boost and says you can ask it anything and Bing will provide an answer. It even gives sources, to address the uncomfortable problem of AI tools like ChatGPT that have been caught out fabricating answers, research and other things.

Perplexity AI will search across the entire web or it can be narrowed to academic, YouTube or Reddit. It also has a text and code generator function.

AI Checkers

One of the problems with all these AI-powered tools is that they can’t always be trusted to deliver accurate information and are being used to cheat on school work and plagiarise. Hence the rise of the AI checkers.

AI Writing Check will check up to 400 words at a go and estimate what may have been generated by a non-human writer.

Copyleaks has an AI checker that will check for non-human material.

Writer AI content detector does what it says on the label uploading text or a URL to spot AI written material.

AI isn’t much without smart prompts, so naturally there’s a burgeoning industry devoted to the best and more effective prompts. Here are a few I’ve come across and helpful newsletters I’ve subscribed to.
